Hundred of Thousands People died on Massive Haiti Earthquake. This was confirmed by Haiti Prime Minister.

Haitian authorities said the powerful quake destroyed most of the capital city of Port-au-Prince.

A top envoy called it a “major catastrophe.”

Haiti’s first lady, Elisabeth Debrosse Delatour, reported that “most of Port-au-Prince is destroyed” and that many government buildings had collapsed, Haiti’s ambassador to the United States, Raymond Joseph, told CNN Wednesday morning. Delatour said President René Préval was all right, Joseph reported.

Rescue crews were racing Wednesday morning to fully assess the damage in the teeming hillside city, where toppled buildings killed and injured an untold number of people and trapped others in the rubble.

The U.S. State Department has been told to expect “serious loss of life,” spokesman P.J. Crowley said, though precise casualty estimates were not immediately available.

About 3 million people — one-third of Haiti’s population — were affected by the quake, the Red Cross estimated.

The 7.0 Magnitude Haiti Earthquake is the most devastating earthquake in Haiti in 200 years.

Major Earthquake Strike near Eureka, California Cost

A strong earthquake, estimated magnitude 6.5, rocked the Eureka, Calif., area this afternoon, snapping power lines, toppling televisions, disrupting power throughout the region and forcing the evacuation of at least one mall.

The earthquake was centered under the Pacific Ocean, about 25 miles southwest of Eureka, at 4:27 p.m. A tsunami was not expected, according to the National Weather Service.

There were reports of power outages in some areas, CNN affiliate KCRA said.

“I was talking on the phone and all of a sudden it started shaking. I thought my TV was going to fall over,” Eureka resident Cole Machado told CNN.

He said the power cut out for a few seconds and there were reports of downed phone lines and broken windows in the the nearby town of Ferndale.

Ferndale resident Jessica Stephens Tucker described the movement from the temblor: “It rolled and rolled and then it slammed.”

There was no tsunami warning issued.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, according to the U.S. Coast Guard in Humboldt County.
